The ‘bully boys’ of Clowncil

The following paragraph was in response to a public question by a resident of Glen Eira Clowncil as recorded in the minutes of July 1st – “In your question you have made a number of assertions that are potentially seriously harmful to the reputations of others. In future it may be beneficial to seek further information before making such assertions”. Well it seems that intimidation and straight out bully boy tactics remain alive and well in this kingdom. Why else is there the need for such an antagonistic/spiteful response when the questioner was simply seeking to clarify what she perceived to be a major health issue and to elicit an answer as to who was responsible for maintaining adequate health standards. What she demanded to know were two basic things – who is responsible for the cleaning of public toilets and if it is council, then how do they ascertain that the contractors are actually doing what they are paid for? Haven’t we just had evidence that a famous footballer didn’t provide the services that he was paid for? As a ratepayer, these are legitimate questions and deserve forthright, honest answers – not the personal threats that this response contains.

Given that the community is told time and time again that all answers to public questions represent the view of ‘council’, one must assume that those who allow such missives to be tabled agree with the content, tone, and message. If not, then why would they let it through? Or is this simply another example of ‘puppets’ and ‘masters’ – ie. the administration pens these threats and like good little fellows everyone’s silence allows such practices to go unchallenged. So folks, wouldn’t it be nice to know the answers to the following questions -

  1. Is Paul Burke the author of such responses?
  2. If so, will he take responsibility for what he writes?
  3. will he accept any repercussions for his own self-indulgence or must council and their ratepayers assume any potential costs?

Bullies are universally agreed to be basically, cowards. When an organisation resorts to such tactics, then it only serves to raise serious questions as to what there is to hide? As a ratepayer I have frequently visited a number of toilets in Glen Eira. Some have been very, very, clean, but many are a disgrace - graffiti on inside walls; stained bowls; hardened faeces clinging to sides and underlips of bowls. Simply not good enough and definitely a health hazard. I can’t believe that all of these are cleaned everyday. If they were then why are there hard, caked on remnants of use still in existence? Either people aren’t doing their job properly to begin with, or it is simply a myth that these toilets are being cleaned everyday. Which is it council? And if you don’t know the answer, then isn’t it time to find out?
