An open challenge
Published 9 months, 2 weeks ago in Where I Live.If clowncil really wants to know what residents think about a variety of issues then I challenge them to put up the following questionnaire on their website –
- Do you think the current $2.94 million‘ redevelopment’ of Centre Road Shopping Centre is ’successful’?
- Are you in favour of a $3.4 million pavilion in Caulfield Park?
- Are you in favour of an estimated $40 million Aquatic Centre?
- Do you agree with the argument that council must pass many development applications because VCAT will ultimately pass them?
- Do you believe that council really ‘consults’ with its residents?
- Do you believe that councillors simply do the bidding of the administration?
- Do you think that there are enough off leash areas for dog owners?
- Do you feel that your councillor has successfully represented your interests?
- Do you feel that councillors are easy to contact and provide feedback?
- Do you feel that there is enough transparency and accountability in this council?

Interesting that some Council members and the Administration are so keen to spend our money for overblown projects. The Caulfield Park has no need for a second floor by any community (sporting or otherwise) - that would save money. The East Bentleigh swimming pool requires about $5m upgrade that users wanted, but we got a $40m aquatic centre proposal - that will be a huge impost on rates if implemented.
A past example of an overblown project is the nearly $12m Carnegie library. Originally it was approved to cost $7m. The 2nd floor meeting rooms are largely unused and a waste. (There are plenty of meeting rooms in Glen Eira - why do we need more?).
It is good to have community facilities, but only if they are supported and used by the community. It should not be up to personal view of Council members or self serving boffins in the Administration.
Large Council capital works cost residents and business additional rates. The proposals suggested may result in an increase of up to 5%. Is the Glen Eira community prepared for that? And is it worth it?
‘Overblown projects’ is obviously the only thing that matters to this council as gleneiraratepayer points out. Consultation simply does not exist unless it is in line with what has already been decided, is fairly trivial in the overall scheme of things - or legislation requires that something be put out for ‘consultation’. So okay you plebs, have your say and we’ll simply ignore it anyway! This is the real modus operandi of this council, and residents have simply had enough.
you seam to blast them and im for your stand in my world thats the tourism sector the spent sx million dollars on a toilet and our little business is just trying to get 15 thousand for our own camera gear but the blind side of all this is people in power spend just to make them self big and to bugger about the real issure or the rate payer so keep on there tails big fella tours
