Keeping us ignorant!

True to form, the Kingdom of Glen Eira once again makes it extremely difficult for any concerned resident to lay their hands on vital, relevant information via their website. For example – this link (http://www.gleneira.vic.gov.au/Page/Page.asp?Page_Id=1049) takes you to the page announcing ‘consultation’ on the Community Plan. Yet, where is this community plan? The link at the bottom of the page is simply to a Research Report and NOT THE ACTUAL PLAN ITSELF!! Doing a search using the phrase ‘community plan’ brings up the following results –‘roads and infrastructure’; ‘drains’; ‘building over easements’; ‘rest shelters’; ‘kerbs and channels’; ‘street furniture and signs’; ‘street lighting’; ‘vehicle crossings’ and ‘community’. No mention of the community plan!!! But being a persistent soul, I went to the ‘index’ and looked under ‘c’. There it was ‘community plan’!! Clicking on this link lead me to the following documents – ‘Glen Eira 2010 community plan’; ‘Glen Eira 2010 Community Plan – Appendices’; ‘Action Plan 2007-2011’; and finally ‘Strategic Resource Plan 2007-8’. Great stuff isn’t it, especially since the original link states that consultation is sought on the 2008-12 Community Plan!!!

Is this simply a typo? A webmaster’s poor organisational skills? Why should it be so difficult to actually locate a document that will set in concrete plans that will impact on the community for the next 5 years? Being a cynic, I simply wonder whether this is merely another example of keeping us residents ignorant? How can one debate a ‘community plan’, provide intelligent input, consider objectives, etc. when it is nigh impossible to locate, unless you’ve been following the past year’s clowncil meetings and understand how things work. There is simply no excuse for the lack of attention paid to detail on clowncil’s website, or in a more sinister vein, the deliberate attempt at obfuscation!!
